Prime Minister Endorses Coast Guard

  • Capacity-Building Strategy Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak has endorsed a comprehensive strategy for building the capacity of the Coast Guard, which includes advanced training plans and modern equipment to enhance its readiness and capability to protect Yemen’s coasts and islands, and to counter various threats in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. This endorsement was announced during a meeting on Sunday in the temporary capital, Aden, between the Prime Minister and Major General Khaled Al-Qamali, Chairman of the Coast Guard, who presented the strategy’s objectives and the expected role it will play in strengthening the Coast Guard’s ability to protect territorial waters and combat various forms of smuggling. Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak expressed his hope for support from Yemen’s allies in the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy, led by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, as well as from Yemen's other partner countries. He emphasized the importance of backing the strategy’s implementation and supporting the government’s efforts to boost maritime security and workforce efficiency, given Yemen's strategic location and its significance to regional security and international navigation routes. The Prime Minister directed the Minister of Interior to work with the Coast Guard leadership to implement the strategy and achieve its intended goals. The meeting also reviewed the current status of the Coast Guard forces, efforts to enhance and develop their performance, accomplishments to date, and ongoing steps to elevate their security and operational effectiveness in protecting territorial waters. The Prime Minister underscored the importance of strengthening international cooperation and partnerships to support the Coast Guard’s ability to address challenges, highlighting the essential role of the Yemeni Coast Guard in safeguarding ports, coasts, and territorial waters.
